Resources for Parents

  • Toy Library
    • Visit our special library with simple puzzles and wooden toys ready for you to check out and play with at home.  The loan period for items from the toy library is four weeks. For challenging puzzles, visit our puzzle collection across from the Circulation Desk, next to our board game collection.
  • File Folder Games located under our Easy Reader Paperbacks shelf
  • Discovery Kits
    • Are self-guided learning packs that focus on a specific topic of STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
    • Each kit comes with 2-5 books dedicated to the kit’s topic. These resources provide information (to build knowledge) or tell a story (to build connection) helping users to establish necessary background knowledge.
    • Furthermore, each kit comes with a number of physical items: activities, games, manipulatives, models, projects, puzzles, or tools which allow users to apply their newly gained knowledge in real world ways.
    • Providing children the opportunity to learn through reading and then apply that knowledge through doing strengthens neural connections, providing better learning outcomes to build knowledge that lasts.
  • Tummy Time Kits
    • Books and a toy to engage your baby during tummy time. Located in our Toy Library in the Children's Room.
  • Story Bags
    • Host your own story time with one of our Story Bag Kits. Located in our Toy Library in the Children's Room.
  • Family Travel Kits
    • Take a backpack or bag filled with travel games with you on your next family trip.  Each kit is build around a theme or age-group. Located in our Toy Library in the Children's Room.
  • My Firsts Kits
    • Each themed kit focuses on first experiences that young children might be excited or anxious about including a new baby, potty training, visiting the dentist, and more. Located in our Toy Library in the Children's Room.
  • Board games
    • Our board game collection is located across from the Circulation Desk and has games for all ages. Our outdoor games are located in our Library of Things.

Technology for Kids

  • Playaway Launchpads
    • Launchpads are a great way to experience new apps built for children of all ages.  Each tablet is preloaded with themed apps and includes a charger and adapter. The loan period for Launchpads is one week.  
  • Playaway Wonderbooks
    • Wonderbooks are the new book with a CD! Wonderbooks have an attached audio player that has a speaker and a headphones jack depending on where you're reading your audiobook. The loan period for Wonderbooks is four weeks.
  • Playaway View
    • Playaway Views are small screens to enjoy videos on-the-go. With pre-loaded content on an easy-to-use player, al lyou need to do is turn it on, press play, and enjoy. Each view includes a charger and adapter. The loan period for Views is one week.
  • Library of Things
    • Working on a project and need to borrow a tool or equipment? Visit the Library of Things located across from the Circulation Desk.
