2015 Budget Items Needed for Building and Grounds
Peggy Steeno, Director of Administrative Services/Comptroller/Treasurer, asked Alix to submit capital improvement projects for 2015 and they include:
1. Roof ($100,000) – The roof is a priority, since it leaks.
2. Elevator Lift Cylinders ($25,000) – This is problematic more than ever, since it sometimes works well and sometimes does not. At some point it will fail. A couple weeks ago, a woman was stuck on the elevator. She tried using the phone and it was hard to hear her. The next time Kone comes to the library, they will be asked to test the phone speakers and show Dave and Brian what to do in case this were to happen again.
3. Light Pipes and Daylight Sensors ($30,000) – These lights will improve efficiency and bring in natural light. It makes sense to install them with the new roof.
4. Flooring ($12,000) – Replace the carpet in the Company E room. This carpet is 10-11 years old, there are noticeable stains and the seams are starting to open up in places. It was suggested putting in either a terrazzo floor or carpet squares.
Lenz submitted a grant to the Menasha Corporation for a mother’s room. The ADA states that you need at least a 4’x4’ room, chair and sink with no windows in the wall or door. It was suggested using the existing janitors closet (the door would need to be widened and a lower slop sink) or the upper area in the mechanical room (needs a wall, sink and finish off). The men’s room upstairs may not be a viable option since all requests come from the meeting room attendees and the 2nd floor is not a public floor. The cost would be about $10,000 but could be lower if some of the work can be done internally.
For 2014, there is about $23,275 left in the city’s budget for building and repair some of which was carried over for the re-upholstery of chairs. There is also $7,000 in the Other Equipment line. There is $4,113.32 in the building maintenance fund in the endowment. This year, Alix would still like to replace the expansion tank, replace some of the asphalt in the parking lot and look into a DVR and camera system. Last year, Lappen gave us an estimate of $32,000 for an IP and storage system. Alix is seeking another quote on analog and IP. The library currently has 16 cameras of which 15 work.
Kiley commented that the landscaping and the outside wooden box look nice. It will be stained or painted once the wood dries. The sign to recycle cans is now up.
Adjournment
Motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:26 p.m. was made by Kiley and seconded by Wicihowski. Motion carried unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Dreyer, recording secretary
