Discussion/Action Items
     ·    Librarian Ana Maria Acosta described the history of Casa Hispana.  In 1992 members of United Migrant Opportunities Services (UMOS) Appleton Regional Council started a scholarship program for Latino students in the Fox Cities.  UMOS evolved into Latino Link, Inc.  As the Latino population grew, as well as the needs of this population, Casa Hispana was established in 2006 as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization to provide referral to services and organizations for the Latino community, advocacy, and translation/interpreters, in addition to the scholarships. Acosta attends their monthly meetings and provides information on the library’s programs and services.  Our library and the Appleton Public Library will have a booth at the Latino Fest to be held on Saturday, September 8, from 11:00am to 6:00pm in Pierce Park in Appleton.  Acosta suggested buying more basic materials and dual language books.  A survey could be conducted at the bi-lingual story times to find out what materials and services attendees would like us to provide.
     ·    The local monthly newspaper La Vida Hispana has been reorganizing. The September issue has not yet come out so we need to change our ad to publicize the Latin Music Afternoon on September 22 and the bi-lingual story times in October.  The November issue could publicize programs in December: Tom Pease and Santa Visits the Library.
     ·    The committee would like the library to provide pizza at the bi-lingual story times in October and determine if additional people are coming as a result.
     ·    The committee reviewed a letter from John Nebel, who volunteers to work with Acosta on the library’s art exhibits and art programs.
     ·    It was recommended to continue to boost our programs on Facebook.
     ·    Witt provided a draft of an annual report to send to influential people in our community.

Lenz will conduct a Doodle poll to schedule the November meeting.

Motion made by Witt, seconded by Hermans to adjourn.  Motion carried unanimously.

Adjournment
Meeting adjourned at 6:12pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Dreyer, recording secretary
