Opening Reception
During the month of November the library's art wall features a photography exhibit of the work of Peter C. Jung. Hear about his life, his accomplishments, and his photography during this opening reception. Meet with curator Jeff Heimerman and Sarah Bauer Heimerman (his grandaughter). Jeff has curated and recovered the photography of rural Wisconsin from 1930’s to 1970’s.
Peter Jung was a self-made man, fatherless at 11 years old in 1911. He was a prodigious photographer for more than four decades. He formed camera clubs to get members to produce more fine photography. He also spoke to groups about photography as a hobby. He was very involved in Neenah and Menasha communty. He was the first president of the Marathon Credit Union and had a 48-year career at Marathon Paper Company and American Can. He served on the Elisha D. Smith Library Board of Directors for many years and served as president for several of them. After he moved to Neenah in 1957 he was appointed to the Neenah Library board. He also served stints as president of the Neenah Club and the Neenah Historical Society. He helped bring the first international photographic exhibit to the Fox Valley. He improved the quality of the Arts in northeast Wisconsin.
